Steffi Lehmann was born near Dresden and studied opera-singing under Dirk Schmidt at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater 'Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy' in Leipzig. The soprano took out first prize in the Deutsche Mozartgesellschaft's singing competition in 2008 while still studying, and was awarded a Richard-Wagner-Verband scholarship for the Bayreuth Festival in 2009.
After completing her studies as a qualified opera singer and music teacher, she was hired in permanent positions at the Bremen Opera and German National Theatre in Weimar, where, over the seasons that followed, she featured in prominent roles, including Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) (The Knight of the Rose), Pamina (The Magic Flute), Gretel (Hansel and Gretel), Julia de Weert (The Cousin from Nowhere), Donna Clara (Der Zwerg (The Dwarf) and Liù (Turandot).
Steffi Lehmann received high praise in the specialist press (incl. Opernglas, Opernwelt) for her widely acclaimed debut as Dora in the performance of Franz Hummel's contemporary opera Blaubart (Blue Beard), and has since been a sought-after guest for interpretations of contemporary works around the globe.
She was awarded the prestigious Kurt Hübner Prize by the Theater Bremen in 2012 for her outstanding work in the arts.
In recent years, she has done guest stints at the likes of the Prague State Opera, Dortmund Opera House, the Leipzig Opera and at international concert halls, including the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow.
Steffi Lehmann successfully collaborates with international directors such as Tobias Kratzer, Vera Nemirova, Andrea Moses, Frank Hilbrich, Rosamund Gilmore, Sebastian Baumgarten, Herbert Fritsch (Die Banditen) (Les Brigands) and Michael Hampe. And her musical partners include conductors like Massimo Zanetti, Kirill Karabits, Gabriel Feltz, Alexander Liebreich, Titus Engel, Markus Poschner, Felix Bender and Helmuth Rilling. She works with famous orchestras, such as the Dortmund Philharmonic, the Bremen Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.
Steffi Lehmann has been a cast member at the Dresden State Operetta since the 2019/20 season.
